I bought the new shadows in creme brûlée and vintage grape. I was looking for shadows to use when I m doing a purple eye look. Let's just say that neither of these will be in my shadows when I do.
Yes I did actually swatch color there. I was expecting a soft off white color not a patch of light sparkle. I could barely see it. The swatch on the right was done using Fergie Save The Day shimmer eyeshadow primer. It wouldn't even cover the primer. The shadow was soft and velvety on my finger it just translated horrible on skin.
This is the vintage grape. It didn't translate much better than the creme brûlée. It was very washed out. It was like I was painting with water colors. Even over primer on the right, it did not show up the way I had expected.
In keeping with my New Years Resolution of wearing different lip colors, I put down the light pinks and nudes and picked up an orange, peachy coral called Canal St Coral. It looks like a bright coral with an orange undertone to it. I was very nervous about this color.
It swatches smoothly and evenly. The color was exactly how it looked under the cap. It was a bright coral. When I went to put it on, I closed my eyes. I was nervous. When I opened them I did not expect what I saw. A beautiful, slightly sheer coral was looking back at me. I actually really loved the color. I would wear it out anywhere. It had a slightly coconut try smell to it which was nice and not overpowering at all.
Overall I found one product I loved and one I did not like at all. The Almay shadows will not be on my list ever again. I will definitely pick up another one of the NYC new lip pencils again. I recommend the lip pencils but not the eyeshadow.
